Red Irish Lord
Sculpin Family. up to 20 inches long. One can find them from Siberia, North Alaska to Central California and intertidally to 165 ft. The Red Irish Lord is confident in its camouflage and concealment ability and can change their color to match their surroundings. Like all sculpins, they do not have a swim bladder and are bottom dwellers and appear to be perching on surfaces. The males in this family are the ones that guard the eggs once the female lays them. The Red Irish Lord can sometimes be mistaken for another sculpin - the Buffalo Sculpin, however, the face is longer and their eyes have gold flecks in them. The Buffalo does not have the flecks of gold and their face is much stubbier.
Send us your creature photo, even if you can’t identify it. We’ll consult the experts and possibly feature on our site. Info@thesixthgill.com

TheSixthGill
The idea for TheSixthGill comes from dive visionaries in their 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s with loads of energy and who – like you – LOVE to dive! We enjoy sharing stories and photos, time in the water and are excited to be a part of the greater dive community. We’re also offering divers a new and fresh take on clothing and accessories.
We promote diving in the NW and having fun underwater or above. In the near future, we hope to engage divers of all ages in community dive activities, charity and conservation work, and of course – travel.
If you are looking for cool and hip dive tees that don’t look like that bad 80’s rock band shirt in your bottom drawer – check out our shop section. You’ll find original wear for the NW Diver.

We love the Nudibranchs!
